Kadri Karahan

Kadri Karahan was born in İstanbul in May, 1975. He completed the primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul then graduated from university in the field of Business Management. For a period, he was interested in theater, literature and song composition. His interviews on poetry, music and literature were featured in various websites but mainly in www.kadrikarahan.net. In addition to this, he produced some specials contents for newspapers and journals related to literature. He organized and presented some poetry nights and contributed to concert organizations and album recording process for singers who are well-known in Turkey. His first poetry book was named as “Ben Bu Filmde Kadri Karahan’ı Oynuyorum – (I am Acting as Kadri Karahan In This Movie)” was published in May 2008 then the second poetry book was named as “Akustik Şiirler – (Acoustic Poetry)”” was published in 2013. “Akustik Şiirler” includes the own poems of very famous singers in Turkey. With this feature, this book represents a very important collective work.

As well as poet identity, Kadri Karahan also took album cover photos for some precious singers. He organized his first personal photography exhibition (is named as Akustik Fotoğraflar – Acoustic Photos) in December, 2015.

Now he is still working on new book related to music industry in Turkey. He is also the manager of Turkish Photography Group and organize trip every week with photographers.

1. What do you do for a living?

Firstly, I describe myself as music critic and writer. I am also music director in albums. I have two poetry books which were mentioned in my biography. In addition to this, I have publised my own song was named as “Karanlık Bir Drama – Bu Masalı Kim Yazdı?” in 14th of February, 2019 on Youtube.

2. The greatest satisfaction in your work?

As you know, to get some encouraging comments on your work sparks your better. So it strengthens my feeling and satisfaction for what I do.

3. Looking your Instagram profile I was very impressed! Especially your photo in bnw… They are amazing!!! How did the inspiration for the shots come about? Are they “stolen photos” seizing the moment or is there preparation?

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your beautiful words. I am nourishing my soul through the real life and happenings in it. With my poet identity, it makes my imaginary world wider than it i so it leads me to different feelings. I do not have any ambition to take photos are not took before by other photographers, but I like to entegrate the photos with my soul indeed. With this truth, I have a different style in my inside. The main inspiration of my photos is my imaginary world then my poems which are written or only imagined. The other things do not contribute to my photography.

4. Do you think to be a lucky person?

Yes, exactly! But I do not leave anything completely to chance.

5. One your sentence/quote/poem you would like to share?

I can share the lyrics of my song (Karanlık Bir Drama).
Because I haven’t written anything I’ve felt like for a long time.

6. The most romantic moment in your life?

With your question, I have realized that I haven’t got any great romantic memory yet even I live in intensive romanticism But I am not sad, because I believe that life will offer me the most beautiful and most memorable one day.

7. The 3 favorite songs?

As you guess, I have a lot In my country, there are really inspiring musicians such as Sezen Aksu, Nazan Öncel and Birsen Tezer. If I do wider with including the world, Whitney Houston is my precious. I like the all songs of these singers so much.

8. Do you believe in God?

Yes! I believe that there’s a special bond between us.

9. Your perfect day?
Monday! Everybody feels the new week syndrome but I am not. Because I am happy with the beginning of new week.

10. If you could talk for an hour with a person of your choice in the world (living or not), who would you choose?

I am doing some musical interviews with singers so with this truth, I would like to choose a singer for a talk. Adele is really very good singer and she makes my feelings upper so I would like make an interview with her. I like her musical journey, imaginary world and her energy on stage.

11. What do you think about the place where you live? Have you ever thought about changing your life and going to live in other place?

I like Istanbul so much. In spite of Istanbul is really crowded and tiring, it has still some beauties to discover. Besides, I like also Athens where I have found chance to visit many different places and stayed for a long time. Athens looks similar to my city and my county.

12. What is the most embarrassing situation that you’ve ever lived?

I do not remember any embrassing memory in my life. I can describe myself as clumsy
I can always knock things over, get my feet stuck somewhere. I laugh at them a lot

13. What do you think about Italy?

I have travelled to many countries in Europe, but I have not travelled to Italy yet. I’ve always heard good things. Even my uncle lives there. I wish I could come as soon as I could. A friend of mine brought a strawberry wine from a village. I couldn’t forget her taste. When I was little, my family listened Albano Romina Power songs a lot. In my eyes or in my dream there is a beautiful country far away.

14. Do you like travel? One place that you’ve loved?

My travels started very late but I travelled to many countries in a short time. The first country I went to was Paris, but I wasn’t taking pictures. Now I want to walk the streets again with this photographer identity. Prague and Stockholm were also different and exciting stops for me.

15. What is the meaning of life in your opinion?

It is love! I feel like that now. Maybe it is not

16. If you could talk for an hour with a person of your choice in the world (living or not), who would you choose?

I have answered this question as the same with 10th one. The same question

16. Think of a color. Think of an object of that color. Invent a short story with that object as the protagonist.

Black means “the magic of night” for me. I am always calm and I feel myself more inspired with the silence at night. One of my favourite song says; every black has a white and every nights has shiny days. Even you sleep or not, you reach the daylight in the morning. The colours change. The darkness of night has a magic.

17. How were you as a child? The first memory of your childhood?
I was a quiet kid. I wanted to be a singer. I read a lot of books, and I never wanted to grow up. My childhood was in the 80s. Everything was so beautiful that every moment I remember is beautiful.

18. Have you always had an artistic soul? How does this manifest itself in everyday life?

Art always took place in my life but my education was completed with another field is not related to art. After graduation, I never did my job and I found myself somewhere in the art again.

19. 3 items you can’t give up?

Love, songs, sea, birds. These are pieces of my life.

20. What is the thing that makes you more angry?

Injustice, discrimination, inequality. And sometimes unhappy people.

21. When you see carefully yourself at the mirror, what do you see?

A child who never grew up and still dreaming.

22. The best and the worse moments of your life?

Music, literature and photography. A study about them finds a sound in life; so the things I produce have always returned to me as happy moments and memories. My unhappy moments were losses in life.

23. If you were a color, what would you be?

Black. I love black in a meaningless way.

24. Are you optimistic or pessimist?

Exactly optimistic! I don’t want pessimist people in my life.

25. If you should define yourself, what words will you use?

Friendly, positive, emotional but sometimes chaos

Il poeta di Istanbul

Kadri Karahan è nato a Istanbul nel maggio del 1975. Ha completato l’istruzione primaria, secondaria e superiore a Istanbul, quindi si è laureato in economia aziendale. Oltre all’identità di poeta, Kadri Karahan ha anche scattato foto per le copertine di alcuni famosi cantanti. Ha organizzato la sua prima mostra fotografica personale (prende il nome di Akustik Fotoğraflar – Acoustic Photos) nel dicembre 2015.

Ora sta ancora lavorando a un nuovo libro sull’industria musicale in Turchia. È anche il direttore del gruppo turco di fotografia e organizza viaggi ogni settimana con i fotografi.

1. Cosa fai per vivere?

In primo luogo, mi descrivo come critico musicale e scrittore. Sono anche il direttore musicale degli album. Ho due libri di poesie che sono stati menzionati nella mia biografia. 2. La massima soddisfazione nel tuo lavoro?

Come sai, ottenere alcuni commenti incoraggianti sul tuo lavoro ti fa sentire meglio. Quindi rafforza il mio sentimento e la soddisfazione per quello che faccio.

3. Guardando il tuo profilo Instagram sono rimasta molto colpita! Soprattutto dalle tue foto in bianco e nero… Sono fantastiche! !! Come è nata l’ispirazione per gli scatti? Sono “foto rubate” che colgono l’attimo o c’è preparazione?

Innanzitutto, vorrei ringraziarti per le tue belle parole. Nutro la mia anima attraverso la vita reale e gli avvenimenti di essa. La mia identità di poeta rende il mio mondo immaginario più ampio di così, quindi mi conduce a emozioni diverse. Non ho alcuna ambizione di scattare foto che non sono state scattate prima da altri fotografi, ma mi piace davvero integrare le foto con la mia anima. Detto ciò , ho stili diversi dentro me. L’ispirazione principale delle mie foto è il mio mondo immaginario e le mie poesie, scritte o solo immaginate. Le altre cose non contribuiscono alla mia fotografia.

4. Pensi di essere una persona fortunata?

Si, certamente! Ma non lascio assolutamente nulla al caso.

5. Una frase / citazione / poesia che vorresti condividere?

Posso condividere il testo della mia canzone (Karanlık Bir Drama). Perché non ho più scritto nulla di ciò che sento da molto tempo.

6. Il momento più romantico della tua vita?

Leggendo la tua domanda, mi sono reso conto che non ho ancora un grande ricordo romantico eppure vivo in un intenso romanticismo Ma non sono triste, perché credo che la vita debba ancora offrirmi il giorno più bello e memorabile.

7. Le 3 canzoni preferite?

Come potrai immaginare, c’è molto nel mio paese, ci sono musicisti davvero stimolanti come Sezen Aksu, Nazan Öncel e Birsen Tezer.

Se invece considero il mondo intero, Whitney Houston è il mio gioiello. Mi piacciono così tanto tutte le canzoni di questi cantanti!

8. Credi in Dio?

Sì! Credo che ci sia un legame speciale tra di noi.

9. Il tuo giorno perfetto?

Lunedi! Tutti sentono la sindrome della nuova settimana ma io no. Perché sono contento dell’inizio della nuova settimana.

10. Se potessi parlare per un’ora con una persona a tua scelta nel mondo (viva o no), chi sceglieresti?

Sto facendo alcune interviste musicali con i cantanti, quindi, dato ciò , vorrei scegliere un cantante per poter fare un discorso. Adele è davvero una bravissima cantante e mi fa sentire meglio, quindi vorrei fare un’intervista con lei. Mi piace il suo viaggio musicale, il mondo immaginario e la sua energia sul palco.

11. Cosa pensi del luogo in cui vivi? Hai mai pensato di cambiare la tua vita e di andare a vivere in un altro posto?

Mi piace così tanto Istanbul. Nonostante Istanbul sia davvero affollata e stancante, ha ancora tante bellezze da scoprire. Inoltre, mi piace anche Atene, dove ho avuto la possibilità di visitare molti luoghi diversi e sono rimasto a lungo. Atene sembra simile alla mia città e alla mia contea.

12. Qual è la situazione più imbarazzante che tu abbia mai vissuto?

Non ricordo alcun ricordo imbarazzante nella mia vita. Posso definirmi maldestro

Posso sempre rovesciare le cose, bloccarmi i piedi da qualche parte. Rido molto di esse

13. Cosa pensi dell’Italia?

Ho viaggiato in molti paesi in Europa, ma non ho ancora viaggiato in Italia. Ho sempre sentito dire cose buone dell’Italia. Anche mio zio vive lì. Vorrei poter venire il prima possibile. Un mio amico ha portato un vino alla fragola da un paese. Non potrò mai dimenticare i suoi sapori. Quando ero piccolo, la mia famiglia ascoltava molto le canzoni di Albano e Romina Power. Ai miei occhi o nei miei sogni c’è un bellissimo paese lontano.

14. Ti piace viaggiare? Un posto che hai amato?

I miei viaggi sono iniziati molto tardi, ma ho viaggiato in molti paesi in breve tempo. Il primo paese in cui sono stato è stato Parigi, ma non stavo fotografando. Ora voglio camminare di nuovo per le strade con questa identità di fotografo. Anche Praga e Stoccolma sono state tappe diverse ed eccitanti per me.

15. Qual è il significato della vita secondo te?

L’ amore! Adesso mi sento così….ma forse non lo è

16. Pensa a un colore. Pensa a un oggetto di quel colore. Inventa un racconto con quell’oggetto come protagonista.

Il nero significa “la magia della notte” per me. Sono sempre calmo e mi sento più ispirato dal silenzio di notte. Dice una delle mie canzoni preferite; ogni nero ha un bianco e ogni notte ha giorni splendenti. Anche se dormi o no, raggiungi la luce del giorno al mattino. I colori cambiano. L’oscurità della notte ha una magia.

17. Come eri da bambino? Il primo ricordo della tua infanzia?

Ero un bambino tranquillo. Volevo diventare un cantante. Ho letto molti libri e non sarei mai voluto crescere. La mia infanzia è stata negli anni ’80. Era tutto così bello che ogni momento che ricordo è bellissimo.

18. Hai sempre avuto un’anima artistica? Come si manifesta nella vita di tutti i giorni?

C’ e’ sempre stata arte nella mia vita, ma la mia educazione è stata completata in un altro campo non legato all’arte. Dopo la laurea, non ho mai fatto il mio lavoro e mi sono ritrovato di nuovo in un modo o nell’altro nell’arte.

19. 3 cose a cui non puoi rinunciare?

Amore, canzoni, mare, uccelli. Questi sono pezzi della mia vita.

20. Qual è la cosa che ti fa più arrabbiare?

Ingiustizia, discriminazione, disuguaglianza. E a volte le persone infelici.

21. Quando guardi attentamente te stesso allo specchio, cosa vedi?

Un bambino che non è mai cresciuto e che sogna ancora.

22. I momenti migliori e peggiori della tua vita?

Musica, letteratura e fotografia. Studiare uno di essi genera un suono nella mia vita; così le cose che produco han sempre creato momenti felici e ricordi. I miei momenti infelici sono stati perdite nella vita.

23. Se fossi un colore, quale saresti?

Nero. Adoro il nero senza motivo

24. Sei ottimista o pessimista?

Di certo ottimista! Non voglio persone pessimiste nella mia vita.

25. Se dovessi definirti, quali parole useresti?

Amichevole, positivo, emotivo ma a volte caos puro.
