1.What do you do for a living? Have you always done this?
I am an artist and have been doing this for about 30 years. This is my third major career.
2. What events have most marked your life?
Discovering in early mid-life that I really like to create things with my hands.
3. Your works are really masterpieces. Where did the idea for your works come from?
The ideas are a combination of my imagination and the artifacts that I collect.
4. When was the last time you thought “I’m a lucky person”?
Yesterday.
5. The worse moment of your life?
Exhibiting at a very expensive art fair and making no sales.
6. What advice can you give to those who would like to start a job like yours?
It’s difficult to make a living as an artist so having other skills, e.g. being an electrician, will help survival.
7. The 3 favorite songs?
I have too many to narrow them down to three, although Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah would be top of the list.
8. Do you believe in God?
Not at the moment.
9. If you could, what would you change in your life?
I would win a lottery.
10. What is your way to release tension?
Sitting in the garden with a good book. And yoga.
11. What do you think about the place where you live? Have you ever thought about changing your life and going to live in other place?
I live in a very interesting city that is going through a revitalization and has a vibrant creative community. I have a great live/work home with a large studio space. If have I ever thought about changing my life and going to live in other place? Many times when I’m daydreaming.
12. Your hobbies?
Gardening, reading, vintage automobiles, making things.
13. What do you think about Italy?
I’ve never been but would love to visit.
14. Do you like travel?
I’m not a great traveler.
15. When was the last time you felt a strong emotion?
Daily.
16. Do you like reading?
Love to, at least when I can calm my mind enough to focus on it.
17. What was your greatest satisfaction in your work?
Having a style and approach that is all my own.
18. The first memory of your childhood?
I’m too old to remember that far back.
19. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?
I’m an optimistic pessimist.
20. What is the thing that makes you more angry?
Injustice of any kind, especially people abusing power.
21.Where do you go to feel in peace with yourself?
In my garden.
22. The best place you ever seen?
There are many but watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean was a good one.
23. Have you ever made or received a surprise?
Sometimes I’m surprised when a piece that I’m working on turns out to be very different from the original concept.
24. What do you think about social media?
I have a love/hate relationship with it. The only one that I use much is Instagram.
25. If you should define yourself, what words will you use?
I’m a survivor.
And how would you like the others see you?
He’s a great survivor.
