All About Lapland

In your magazine, on paper and online, you provide different info to tourists who come to visit your places. Advice for them? What do they need to put in their suitcase before leaving?
Go on a roadtrip around Lapland, and see several destinations, not just one. In Rovaniemi, for example, you can meet Santa, and further north, you can see very beautiful nature.
Suitcase: warm socks for winter, sunglasses in summer 🙂

It will soon be Christmas. How is Christmas there?
It’s beautiful! Lot’s of snow and Christmas lights everywhere. Especially at the Santa Claus Village 🙂

Where can we come to know Santa Claus? Can you talk about him?
You can meet with Santa Claus at his Office at the Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle. He’s there every day.

What are the experiences absolutely to do?
Husky tours, electric snowmobile safaris, exploring nature, having fun in the snow.

Christmas food for you?
I like good burgers, no matter the season 🙂 But traditional food is Christmas ham with carrot temptation.

Can you talk about the Northern Lights? When is it easier to see it? What emotions do you transmit? What is people’s reaction to such a spectacular sight?
The best seasons to see northern lights is September to Mid-October, as well as March to Mid-April. At best, the aurora can be so powerful and beautiful, that it makes you scream!

The best souvenir you can buy from you?
Wooden postcards and boards with my northern lights images. 😉

3 adjectives to describe a trip to the Finnish Lapland?
Beautiful, fragile, mysterious.

I saw the advertisement of the icebreaker cruise.  Is it an “extreme” experience or can it be for everyone?
Icebreaker is actually pretty nice for the whole family. Anyone can put on the wetsuit and go floating on the icy water.

Can you tell us something about the Santa Claus village?
It’s on the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi Lapland Finland. A great place to visit no matter the season.

What is it like living in the Finnish Lapland?
Best place in the world 🙂

For many people I know, it would be a dream to be able to sleep in an Artic Snow Hotel. Have you ever tried? What services does a hotel of this type offer?
Arctic SnowHotel is one of the best places in Rovaniemi to stay. At the glass igloos you have a great view over the night skies and better chances to see the northern lights. Every year, the SnowHotel is built there, which is very beautiful. You can also stay for the night there.

What kind of scent does Christmas have?
Cinnamon 🙂

What are the temperatures in winter and summer?
Anything from –40’C to + 33’C

In the collective imagination a person thinks of a trip from you at Christmas, but even in summer there is a lot to do and see! What are the advantages of coming in summer?
Daylight 24 hours, Midnight Sun, beautiful nature

What city is Rovaniemi?
It’s a great island of good services, hotels, restaurants and museums in the wilderness of Lapland.

You have many wild animals! Is it easy to spot one?
Yes, there are reindeer, squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, and they even often come buy peoples’ yards.

What is it like getting used to the midnight sun or having 24 hours of darkness?
In summer, you don’t get tired so easily and feel that you can go on indefinitely. You also feel happier. Winter darkness can make you feel depressed, even though you are a happy person. Exercise and light therapy works against it.

What would you like under your Christmas tree?
Hmm
a new laptop to edit my pictures
but I will probably end up ordering one themselves.

What about Sami people?
They are the only indigenous people of Europe. Inari is currently the region to find out about Sami culture. You can visit Sajos & Siida cultural place there.

On the internet, your cottages and sleeping cabins are widely advertised.  What do you recommend to those who want to come on holiday to you as accommodation?
For cottages I can recommend Arctic Circle Wilderness Resort in Rovaniemi, or just renting a cabin in the woods at some location like YllĂ€s or Ruka 🙂

A phrase or quote or proverb to describe your lands?
It’s a place to stay cool 🙂 At least in my opinion.

A your typical Christmas wish for my readers?
Come visit Lapland in any season you like! Except, probably, late Spring (May) when it is not very beautiful.
