1. What is your job? What do you busy?
We work the cold glass, with the typing and engraving technique while maintaining the tradition of this ancient art. Working with wheels and holding the work between your hands
2. How did you get this job? Where did you learn and how long do you do it?
We learned this art from our father, who taught us how to model the cold glass. Our study is open for 20 years, but from the little ones we went to the old dad’s factory to admire it and sometimes to help him
3. What was the most complex work you have realized? Can you say the cost?
If I think of the most complicated work, I really think it was to make a glass guitar that works. This project lasted many years, we had to start all by head by throwing days and working many days to get perfect sound and light weight just like a real guitar. Price on abt 40 000 Euros
4. In a time in which everything is produced in series and low cost, how important is it to keep alive local crafts? How are sales? Have you been affected by the crisis of recent years?
We both believe that doing art with your hands is the beautiful thing in the world. In our case, our works are very long and expensive; we also pass 4 days with a vase in your hand trying to pull out the soul of a simple glass object, digging, working in the color layers until reaching precise machining. Sales are fine, we had many satisfaction with collectors who have falling in love with our works and, even if they are not many years that we produce our works and our name is not yet very famous, we can say to be very satisfied. In the past we worked for many artists in this area but it is not the same to see your work with the name of another.
5. What was your greatest satisfaction at work?
Our greatest satisfaction was that we have worked with our father, every day was a challenge to try to overcome it, and, though he isn’t here with us, we believe that he would be happy with the level we have arrived today.
6 . Do you sell much to local or foreign?
Definitely foreigners
7. Merits and defects of the city where you live?
Our island is a very quiet place, it’s a world where you are talking about glass all day and where, if you do not love this quiet art, it’s hard to live
8. Why is Murano’s glass is more precious and expensive than other glasses?
I do not think is more expensive than the works I see around the world, surely Murano’s glass is more complicated to work than many other glasses in the world and we had and we still have strong majestic in handworking

Tra palco e realtà – Ligabue
It’s at Long Way to the Top ACCC
10. What are the places to see in Venice? Those perhaps not in the classic tourist routes…
The best when you come to Venice is lost and walk on the streets. Each corner contains extraordinary places where there are no hundreds of tourists and where you can live with the locals. And do not forget to come in our study if you love glass 🙂
11. You live in and work in Murano? How is living on an island? How do you move it? I know it is a trivial question, but for us it is always strange the idea of moving on the water instead of taking car or scooter …
We live and work in Murano, to move you always have to think with time because or you go walking or by public transport and you spend a lot of time. Fortunately many people have their own boat and then the times shorten even though it is not like the car where you do very soon to arrive everywhere
12. How do the ideas for your works born?
Our ideas are very simply, when we take the jar in our hands it is like it invites us to bring out his soul. We do not have a line, we go free to look for always a new and different work
13. traditions or experimentations?
Our work is always and only experimentation, every day we create and learn something new
14. What do you think about the current Italian political situation?
I believe that any political parts goes to power will not change this situation, too many taxes, people can not be able to do quietly, always to pay too much and in the pocket there is no longer anything to anyone else, especially to craftsmen
15. How is the situation from the point of view of polluting emissions in the glass factories? I had read of tax offices for those who are injured and aid for companies that do this job for years. Are there these aids?
I do not know reply to you, because we I don’t melt the glass. I don’t think there was any help, rather there were obligations to put very expensive filters
16. A news of 2018 attributed to Venice the role of more overcrowded city in the world, with 73.8 tourists by inhabitant between historic center and mainland. How do you live with this problem?
Fortunately, working almost all day in our study, we are not in contact with this situation that I think I was unsustainable
17. How can a young man learn your craft? Are there schools or courses that teach? New generations will be able to keep the old traditions of the glass masters live?
There is a single way to learn to work the glass: it is to enter the furnace. About new generation, I hope that, though young people that want to learn are less and less here. It is different when we go to America for work; there they focus a lot on encouraging young people to do this job
18. What quality do you have to have a person to be able to play your job yourself? What are the major difficulties that meet and how much time do you need to learn?
You never have finished learning; it certainly is not a job for everyone, it is tiring, you are in front of a glowing oven all day or in my case you have hours and hours to stay in front of a machine with a piece in hand … or face everything with passion or not go ahead
